Fairtrade Chimborazo Organic Quinoa - Back in Stock

Our Fairtrade organic Chimborazo Quinoa, grown and processed in Ecuador is now in stock after being unavailable for most of 2009. Very wet weather during the drying season combined with Mount Tuganara erupting has meant the farmers have not had any Quinoa to export.

As a result of this we have been buying Quinoa from Bolivia in 2009 and will continue to do so, as demand for Quinoa has grown in recent years as more poeple have become aware of its fantastic nutritional benefits and great taste.

Our Ecuadorian Quinoa is grown in the foothills of Mount Chimborazo, Ecuador's highest peak. It is farmed organically at an altitude of over 10,000 feet. We trade directly with the growers who with our encouragment and support have formed a co-operative representing the interests of over 4000 family farms - The Organic Producer's Co-operative of Chimborazo - Coprobich. Thanks to the fair price we pay for our Quinoa the Quality of life of these famers is greatly improved.

Our Heritage Quinoa Project won the Slow Food Movement international Award for the Defence of Biodiversity in 2002 and was award the Fairtrade Mark in 2004.
