At the start of the season we agreed to pay an extra £100 for every ton of figs we purchased from our supplier in Turkey.

Every penny of this goes toward the building of the new, dedicate water depot which houses the groundwater pump and storage tanks. This vital pipeline will directly supply Bekirler's population with much needed water in the heart of Turkeys remote fig growing region, Manisa.

Bekirler's main source of income to its 165 families is the cultivation and harvest of figs. By buying from respected suppliers we are able to guarantee a fair, steady and stable source of income to the farmers of Bekirler. 

In the past 2-3 years they have noticed significant drop in the supply of water from regular sources, meaning locals have had to embark on arduous journeys to fill drums of water miles away from the nearest surface water supply. 

Stagnant surface water is inherently dangerous for human consumption. Our contribution is helping to keep the people if Bekirler safe from disease, but also protecting their rural way of life.
